ODM leader Raila Odinga landed in Lamu Island yesterday ahead of his tour in the coastal region.

The ODM leader was received by the Lamu governor Fahim Twaha and a host of MPs will also join Odinga for a church service in Mpeketoni today.

The former premier returns to the coast to consolidate his base against a sustained slot by DP Ruto who has made several visits to the region.

The region's number with five counties on the coast has a total of 1.85 million voters up from 1.7 million voters registered in the last general election.

During the election, Odinga with his then-running mate Kalonzo Musyoka got 801,031 votes against Uhuru-Ruto 287,661 votes from the region.

DP Ruto has also made at least three visits to the region in the last two months.

Raila will kick start his campaign today at the Full Gospel church in Mpeketoni.

He will then head to Witu and Lamu Island.

The ODM boss on Monday will head Kilifi County, with the series of rallies in Malind and Mtwapa in Kilifi south constituency.

On Tuesday, Odinga will head to Kwale and Mombasa counties with tours in Lunga Lunga, Msambweni and Likoni.
