The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has been dealt a blow after High Court decided to extend the voter registration exercise until Friday at 5.30 pm.

The ruling comes after the electorate body said it has no plans to extend the exercise due to a lack of enough funds.

However, the commission's chairman Wafula Chebukati had confirmed that the commission will start registering Kenyans in the diaspora from November 6, 2021, an exercise that will take fifteen days.

Chebukati said the commission will announce centers and countries in which Kenyans in the diaspora can register as voters.

IEBC added that it will continue with the constituency-based voter registration exercise, after the just concluded mass voter registration on Tuesday, November 2.

In the just-concluded mass voter registration exercise,  IEBC had registered a total of 2,413,444 new voters out of its targeted six million eligible voters. 

352,679 voters applied for transfer from their current registration centers to new centers of choice.
