Chief Justice Martha Koome has issued a directive to all courts across the country to resume normal physical operations weeks after the President denounced dusk to dawn curfew.

Through a memo, Koome noted all courts shall adhere to the COVID-19 containment guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health such as wearing of masks, social distancing, regular fumigation of the courtrooms and handwashing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“All courts will operate from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm unless otherwise authorised by the Chief Justice.” read the CJ's memo.

According to her, the courts are free to continue using technology in their sessions in areas needed to be used.

"The Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Commercial Courts in Milimani shall continue to conduct most hearings virtually even as we try to solve the technical challenges we have faced with other courts and ensure that they can conduct their daily routines virtually depending on the circumstances," said Koome.

In March last year, the Judiciary suspended court activities in compliance with the government directives to fight COVID-19.
