Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua has called upon the Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Wafula Chebukati to explain why the body met with the cabinet secretaries as preparation for next year's general election continues.

Gachagua has accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and his ICT counterpart Joe Mucheru who met with Chebukati saying that puts the electoral body in a sham situation as they can not prove their independence.

“IEBC is independent. You have no business calling Matiang’i and Mucheru to a meeting when it is in the public domain that they have already taken sides,” Gachagua said.

DP William Ruto's affiliates have continuously called for the resignation of the two ministers over claims that they are followers of ODM leader Raila Odinga in the coming elections.

Their sentiment comes after Interior CS Matiang'i openly declared his support for the handshake between President Kenyatta and Raila Odinga in Nyamira
