Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is staring at impeachment in the face after Members of the Nairobi County Assembly (MCAs) tabled a notice of the ouster motion on Thursday.
The impeachment motion was tabled by Assembly Minority Leader Michael Ogada after a total of 86 out of 122 MCA appended their signatures to the motion, exceeding the motion’s legal threshold.
MCAs allied to Sonko have blamed the ploy to remove the governor from office on his refusal to append his signature to the bill on Nairobi’s Sh37.5 billion budget for the 2020-2021 financial year.
The embattled county boss was saved from ousted by the court in February after the Ward Representatives accused him of abuse of office and financial mismanagement among other charges.
The outspoken and flashy Sonko has recently vowed that he will not remit to Nairobi Metropolitan Service headed by Major General Mohamed Badi Sh27.1 billion passed by MCAs in the budget.
