Mariam Akinyi recently resigned from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to seek
the vacant Msambweni parliamentary seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.
Mariam has in the recent past been seen traversing the country with Deputy President William Ruto, whose support she was counting on to clinch the seat.

However,
a decision by Jubilee Party announced by Secretary General Raphael Tuju on
Wednesday has the potential of denying her the seat.
Tuju announced
that the party had opted not to field any candidate in the impending parliamentary
mini poll and will instead back the ODM candidate.
A
decision accepted half-heartedly by DP Ruto to a press conference held outside the
party headquarters in Pangani along the Thika superhighway.
A flabbergasted
Mariam was left in limbo not knowing what step to take next”
“I am
here because I has already presented my papers. I want to be informed (by the
party) what the way forwards is,” she said agitatedly at the briefing.
The
DP sad he would back the candidates who will be battling it out for the seat
left vacant after the death of ODM’s Suleiman Dori, who was his ally.
But he hinted at helping the stranded Mariam to still seek the parliamentary seat, possibly as an independent candidate after the party decision.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced it would conduct the Msambweni mini poll on December 15th.
