Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has continued to drum up support for ODM leader Raila Odinga’s bid for the presidency in the 2022 general election.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen Tv on Wednesday, Kanini said Raila would make a good president given his track record and sacrifices he had made for the country.

“I have now listened to him and he has the country at heart and I believe he would make a good president,” Kanini said.

He reiterated that Raila has always had a good message for the people of Mount Kenya but had not been given the opportunity to express it because he always vied against a member of their region.

The hard-hitting Jubilee legislator revealed that he had engaged with the former Prime Minister on matters of national interest and had concluded that he was resourceful person who would steer the country forward best compared to his competitors.

“He has always wanted to give us a message but we as Kikuyus said, since he is vying against one of our own, we do not want to listen, but of late now I’ve been able to engage him and he is very resourceful,” he said.

During the interview, Kanini visited the country’s history to the chapters where the Odingas shelved their political ambitions in favour of other candidates for the betterment of the country.

One such event that he referred to was when Raila’s father the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga insisted that the founding father of the nation Jomo Kenyatta be released from incarceration before independence.

Kanini also mentioned Raila’s retreat and the handshake that followed a contested election where the ODM leader came together with his competitor and shook hands for the sake of peace.

He said he evaluated Raila and his father’s selfless actions and concluded that the Odingas may have a message for the nation.

“So when I look back at the actions, his actions and the actions of his father, I said, wait a minute. Let’s listen to him. Maybe he still has a message from his father on why they did what they did at that time when they were also looking for the presidency,” Kanini added.

Kanini also remembered that the Mount Kenya region had previously conferred the title of “Njamba”, a hero’s title to Raila when he declared he endorsed and declared “Kibaki Tosha”.
