President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived at the Manda Military Airstrip on Thursday to preside over a military ceremony in the coastal county of Lamu.
He was received by Defence Cabinet Secretary Amb Monica Juma and Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces General Robert Kibochi.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces presented the Presidential colour to the Parade Color Officer Lieutenant Nordin Juma.

The historic event elevated the operational autonomy of the Kenya Navy Base at Manda bay.
This makes the navy base a more geostrategic military installation for national, regional and internal security operations.
Aside from the ceremony, Uhuru also inaugurated the Manda Base Sickbay and Trauma Center.

The two facilities are expected to provide medical support, timely and efficient trauma stabilization to KDF officers and other Multi-Agency personnel in their respective areas of operation

The Commander-In-Chief also unveiled the Kenya Navy Base Manda Monument, which commemorates the fallen soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty as they fought to defend the country.
