Police spokesman Bruno Shioso has issued a statement to address concerns raised over the withdrawal of Deputy President’s GSU guards from his official residence in Karen and Sugoi home.

Shioso said the change of guard is a normal re-assignment of duties within the National Police Service to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

The police spokesman said the DP’s guards had been replaced with the Security of Government Buildings Unit (SGB).

“Today 26th August 2021 the Security of Government Buildings Unit (SGB) has been deployed to provide general security to the official residence of H.E the Deputy President from General Service Unit (GSU). This is a normal re-assignment of duties within the National Police Service to enhance efficiency and effectiveness,” the statement read.

Shioso also stated that Ruto still enjoys the protection of the Presidential Escort Unit.

According to David Mugonyi, the DP’s communications secretary, they had received no communication with regard to the change of guard.
