The government has withdrawn the General Service Unit (GSU) officers who have been guarding Deputy President William Ruto's official residence in Karen, Nairobi as well as those deployed to his Sugoi home in Eldoret.
Ruto's allies protested the move terming it political and claiming it was meant to further weaken the him and his quest to replace President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2022 General Election.
The GSU security officers were immediately replaced by officers from the Administration Police (AP) service in what the National Police Service has called routine changes in the security detail of VVIPs.
So far, no security officials have spoken about the drastic change of guard at the DP's homes, coming days after President Uhuru Kenyatta told his deputy Ruto to resign if he is unhappy in the government, even as the DP has vowed to stay put.
