A teacher from Kianjeru Primary School has died and scores of students injured the school bus they were travelling in rolled down the hill.

The early Monday morning accident occurred at Kangoro area in Chuka.

Alex Mugambi, the Tharaka Nithi emergency response boss, said he received information about the accident around 5:30 am.

According to Mugambi, the school bus driver offered a lift to several secondary school students from a nearby school on his way to pick some pupils in Chuka town.

“The driver gave a ride to several secondary school students while on his way to Chuka,” Mr Mugambi said.

Witness report says the bus seemed to have lost its brakes and started moving downhill before losing control then toppling over and rolling down the hill towards a river.

Students who sustained injuries were taken to Chuka General Hospital where they are receiving treatment while some of them were released to home.

The school bus driver also sustained a cut on his foot and was also taken to the hospital where he was treated and released from the hospital.

The body of the teacher who passed away from the accident was moved to the Chuka General Hospital Mortuary
