A man collapsed and died while he was in the company of his girlfriend in his green Subaru vehicle on Sunday night.

According to a police report, 46-year-old John Gacheru collapsed and passed away as he stepped out of his car after spending some time with 25-year-old Apofia Oyego.

The report says the couple had been dating for close to a year and were having a moment inside his vehicle registration KCJ 530C when tragedy struck under unclear circumstances.

Oyego is reported to have alerted the security guard at his compound of the incident immediately Gacheru died and he informed the police who rushed to the scene.

Regular officers from Thika and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) found Gacheru lying beside his vehicle dead and Oyego seated beside him crying wildly.

Police said they recovered Sh850, an iPhone 6 mobile phone, car keys and a handkerchief from the deceased and his body was later moved to Thika General Kago morgue to await an autopsy.

The lover is being detained by police at Thika Police Station.
