The atmosphere at the Kathangari village in Embu was filled with a chilly mood and a sense of darkness as the two slain brothers were being laid to rest.

Friends, relatives, and sundry attended the burial ceremony.

Benson Njiru and Emmanuel Mutura, students at Kabarak University and Don Bosco Technology Training institute respectively met their cruel death on August 11, 2021, under mysterious circumstances.

They were arrested on their way home from their business for flouting the curfew rules.

A section of political leaders led by the Speaker for the National Assembly, Justin Muturi, was present at the burial. Also present were lawyers, representatives from human rights bodies, other leaders and dignitaries.

They condemned the government and accused it of failing to act on the matter expeditiously. They called for justice for the family of the slain brothers and gave a seven-day ultimatum for the culprits to be brought to book.

They threatened to hit the streets to protest the deaths should the government fail to arrest and prosecute the killers. They demanded the immediate resignation of Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.

University students who came to pay their last respects to their fallen comrades also added their voice to the calls for justice.

The victims' father, John Ndwiga, shared the ordeal he went through as he received the death of his sons. He said he would never rest until his sons’ killers are known.

He asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene as his sons were good people and did not deserve to die in that manner.

"We have lost everything. We are now crying for justice. We would like to know the officers who eliminated our sons and why. I have known no peace and those responsible for the death of my sons should not go unpunished," he lamented.

Their mother, Catherine Wawira, was overwhelmed with sorrow and could not hold herself together to offer a word during her sons’ burial ceremony.

The young men were mourned as jovial and respectful members of their society who were ambitious and appealed to all.

As if to respect the bond between the two brothers who were so close to each other, Benson and Emmanuel were buried in the same grave.
