Students and teachers of Nyarongi Mixed Secondary School in Suna East Sub-county, Migori County are in shock after a 20-year-old form 4 student committed suicide in the dormitory.

According to the area Assistant Chief George Owiti, the female student took her own life on Wednesday.

The student is reported to have exhibited signs of depression and was on suicide watch for the whole of Tuesday night by her friends after she hinted at taking her own life on several occasions.

When Wednesday morning came, her fellow students alerted a teacher of her condition and the teacher counselled her. Meanwhile, the school was waiting for the arrival of her parents who has already been informed.

In an unfortunate twist of event, the girl grabbed an opportunity that presented itself in form of the teacher leaving shortly to partake breakfast and made it to the dormitory where she hung herself using a cloth as a noose.

While the girl was taking her own life, her fellow students were in class taking their CATs.

Nobody knows her reasons for tragically ending her life.
