Raila seeks to wrestle the Mt Kenya region vote from Deputy President William Ruto, who has made inroads in the Kikuyu nation, where he has pitched camp since assuming office in 2013.

Ruto, on the other hand, has largely been rooting for a presidential duel with Raila in the coming election, even as the former Prime Minister is yet to officially declare his candidature.
