Kenya recorded its highest positive cases of Covid-19 on Friday, as the spike in the number of infections continues to baffle amid concerns over a possible second wave.
Following the surge, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has warned yet again that the resurgence of the Coronavirus cases was alarming and Kenyans needed to take precautions.
Speaking in Mombasa County, Kagwe revealed that 1,185 more people tested positive for the virus after 9,851 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, raising Kenya’s caseload to 53,797.
In the news virus cases, Kenyans were 1,145 and the rest were foreigners.
The samples tested since the first case was reported rose on Friday to 687,462, as the CS revealed that 17 more virus patients had died, increasing the total fatalities in Kenya to 981.

1,119 of the patients are in hospitals across the country, 41 admitted in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 26 on ventilators, 45 were on supplementary oxygen and 15 in High Dependency Units (HDU).
Kagwe added that a total of 4,440 of the patients were under the home-based care programme, with the youngest new patient being an 11-month-old and oldest aged 93.
