The government has announced reviewed curfew time in 13 counties in the Western Kenya region and introduced further measures to curb the spread of the Indian variant of Covid-19.

According to a statement signed by the Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, the 13 counties have been declared hotspots for Covid-19 both individually and collectively.

The 13 counties that have been affected by the new curfew time include Kisumu, Kakamega, Kericho, Kisii, Nyamira, Bomet, Busia, Bungoma, Trans-Nzoia, Migori, Homabay, Siaya and Vihiga.

The government has also taken further measures to curb the surging numbers of people getting infected with the new variant of Covid-19.

Suspension of weekly non-food and livestock markets in the hotspot zone for a period of 30 days.

All public gatherings, in-person meetings, house parties and sporting activities are suspended in the hotspot zone for a period of 30 days.

Valid certificate for cross-border cargo drivers indicating negative Covid-19 test results conducted less than 48 hours before the onset of their journey and each cargo truck is limited to only two persons.

All funeral and burial ceremonies within the hotspot zone to be complete within 72 hours.

Night vigils and overnight processions before funerals are suspended within the hotspot zone until further notice.

The number of guests at funerals within the hotspot zone is limited to 50 Persons till further notice.

The number of guests, officiators, and facilitators of matrimonial ceremonies and participants in rights of passage and any other similar events is limited to 30
