A policewoman who was arrested after she chopped off a lawyer’s hand during a scrap at Wote Town in Makueni County a fortnight ago will now be charged with murder.

This was confirmed by Makueni County Police Commander Joseph Ole Napeiyan after the lawyer died while being treated at Kenyatta National Hospital Sunday.

Napeiyan said Constable Nancy Njeri, who was based at Makueni Police Station attacked Onesmus Masaku using a machete after she visited his rented house.

Masaku’s arm was chopped of causing him to bleed profusely after the attack.

The police boss said he had set in motion the process of firing Njeri from the police service even as she is set to be arraigned for the gruesome offence.

The charge against the policewoman is set to be upgraded from grievous harm to murder when she is arraigned following the death of the Makueni lawyer.

The lawyer and the cop are reported to have been lovers who separated and it remains unclear what was the cause of the row that led to the shocking incident.

Njeri was detained at the Makueni Police Station awaiting arraignment in Machakos on Friday.
