The High Court has sentenced former Icaciri Girls Secondary School principal Jane Muthoni and her co-accused Isaac Ng'ang'a to 30 years imprisonment for the murder of her husband, Solomon Mwangi Mbuthi.
The court found the two guilty of murdering the former principal of Kiru Boys High School on May 18, 2021.
Muthoni will have her sentence backdated from November 22, 2016, while Ng'ang'a will have his backdated to December 28, 2016.
The court acknowledged the fact that the two were first-time offenders and Muthoni was the breadwinner to her young family.
However, Justice Joel said that the murder was premeditated according to the evidence presented in the case and they made countless attempts at committing the crime.
“Both accused persons had opportunities to walk back, but they chose the path of death, I have come to the conclusion that custodial sentence of 30 years imprisonment of the two,” said Ngugi in the ruling.

Justice Ngugi described Muthoni as a vengeful wife who planned and financed her husband’s murder.
The state and the slain principal’s family lawyer had implored the court to go for the maximum sentence and also said that the two offenders neither showed remorse nor regret during the five-year trial period
The slain principal was reported missing on November 6, 2016, and his violently disfigured body was discovered eight days later, at Karakuta Coffee Estate in Juja sub-county, Kiambu County.
