Hundreds of motorists were stuck on the busy Naivasha-Nairobi highway on Sunday as many parents rushed back to Nairobi from upcountry ahead of schools reopening.
Learners are expected to return to school on Monday for the commencement of the second term after a two-month break to allow their colleagues in standard 8 sit KCPE examinations.
In their last-minute rush back to Nairobi on Sunday, many parents and their children found themselves stuck a gridlock snaking for tens of kilometres and for hours amid downpour.
Many motorists took to social media to express their anguish at the turn of events on the roads, as many others tries to overlap to make it to their destination before curfew time.
Many have been forced to spend the cold Sunday night and early Monday morning on the road having no other alternative means to get home, with many parents unsure if they children will make to class Monday.

The traffic snarl up started being witnessed on Sunday afternoon with police making frantic efforts to ease the flow but the situation proving overwhelming as the traffic mess stretched for close to 10km, as an accident near Delamare was blamed for the gridlock.
