Police arrested two individuals in a Kilimani apartment after they were found in possession of fake currency amounting to Ksh. 750 million.

The two individuals, namely Boniface Mungai and Samuel Maina were arrested on Tuesday evening at an apartment in Kilimani area of Nairobi where investigations had led the police.

In that apartment and in a metal box, the police found and confiscated fake money in Kenyan, US and Euro currencies. 

A statement the police issued said, “The fake money recovered was in US Dollars of 100 bills amounting to 6,820,000 US Dollars, fake Euros 100 bills totaling to 490,000 Euros and fake Kenya shillings note of 1000 denomination totaling Sh6.4 million.”

Also recovered by the police were UN, Della Rue and National Treasury fake badges, and a number of safe boxes.

“We also recovered bags, machines, two bottles and a jerrycan containing an unknown liquid, assorted documents, customs reflector jackets, stickers and stamps for various offices with their seals,” the statement continued. 

Augustine Nthumbi; the Nairobi police boss said that the police have launched investigations into look into the possibility of the fake currencies being in circulation.

Mr. Nthumbi issued a warning against anyone handling such money and reminded the public that it is criminal and has a negative effect on the economy.
