Businesses in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) had to do without water on Wednesday after water supply was disrupted by ongoing Nairobi Expressway construction.

In a statement, Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) said it disconnected the CBD’s water supply following damages caused to its pipes by expressway workers.

NCWSC said building of the Sh60 billion expressway from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Westlands by China Road and Bridge Corporation caused pipe damages.

“Water supply to the entire CBD has been shut down due to pipe damage by the Express Way Contractor. The line has been shut to pave way for repairs. Bear with us as we work to restore supply in the shortest time possible,” said NWSC in a statement on Wednesday.

Supply of water to various parts of Nairobi City County has been disrupted in the past few months due to the ongoing construction works.

The works have also forced relocation of some major water pipes along Mombasa Road to pave way for the double-decker road, which is touted to change the face of Nairobi once complete.
