Motorists who drink and drive be warned. The alcoblow is officially making a comeback to the Kenyan roads from Friday to tame rising road carnage resulting from drink driving.
According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), government decided to return the breathalyzer after 60 people died between October 2 and 4 alone mostly due to drink driving.
This came as NTSA and the National Police Service on Friday revealed that from January 1 to September 30, a total of 2,689 people died on Kenyan roads compared to 2,655 in the same period last year.
Police bosses in Nairobi county were last year directed to remove all alcoblow gadgets from the road and return them to the traffic headquarters indefinitely.
At the time of suspension, many Kenyan motorists had complained that the alcoblow kits were being used to extort them through many pointless police roadblocks.
