Kenyan Members of Parliament MPs are scheduled
to join the Jerusalema
Challenge craze next week when they finally
shoot their own version.
National
Assembly Majority Leader Amos Kimunya urged MPs to turn up en masse for the practice
sessions Monday and Tuesday and shoot on Wednesday.
“The jig will be
led by the Speaker himself so I encourage you to come out in larger numbers. It
will also be an opportunity for you to exercise,” Kimunya told MPs.
Kimunya said Parliament will use the Jerusalema challenge to showcase work they have done and exhibit solidarity with those affected by Covid-19.

But the likes of Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba was groping in the dark on what the Jerusalema challenge was all about.
“I wanted to ask that the leader could elaborate because I and maybe a few of us don’t know what this thing is, I don’t know whether it’s a challenge show because some of us could also be talented and we want to be part of it and show our challenge,” Milemba posed in the House.
His colleague from Suba North, MP Millie
Odhiambo, who is pushing for the challenge in Parliament, said Jerusalema is the theme song for the pandemic.
In that regard, Millie urged all MPs and parliamentary employees to take part in the challenge to encourage those affected by the novel virus across the world.

Nominated
MP David Ole Sankok can hardly wait to showcase his hidden talents.
“We were practicing today (Thursday), we really
did dance and I am sure I have reduced some weight….and even persons with
disability are encouraged to dance because I was dancing with my crutches. I
also encourage you when we will be dancing, dance alongside me because I will
teach you some important moves,” Sankok told his colleagues elatedly in the
August House.
However, Kenyan MPs taking part in the challenge
comes amid deep political divisions and tensions over 2022 presidential campaigns
led by DP William Ruto.
A fallout in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s ruling Jubilee
party has seen proponents and opponents of DP Ruto’s bid exchange bitter words that
have resulted in chaotic scenes in Murang’a and Nyamira and seen two lives
lost.
Jerusalema, a song by South
African sensation Master KG featuring Nomcebo, has attracted 174 million views on
Youtube since its release nine months ago.
The catchy song has gained worldwide acceptance
as many people from all walks of life take part in the challenge of dancing to the
up-tempo gospel tune.
