Reports from Buckingham Palace say Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband to Queen Elizabeth II, has died at the age of 99.
Prince Phillip passed away peacefully on Friday morning 9 April 2021 at Winsor Castle.
“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.” said an official statement from Buckingham Palace.
Prince Phillip had been Queen Elizabeth's husband for 73 years and together they had 4 children; Prince Charles, Prince of Wales; Princess Anne, Princess Royal; Prince Andrew, Duke of York; and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.

The Prince's health has been on the decline for some time and he made rarely made public appearances after he announced that he was stepping down from royal engagements in May 2017.
Flags were being lowered to half-mast on landmark buildings in Britain after a period of mourning was announced.
It was at Treetops Hotel, in Kenya’s Aberdares, where Prince Philip told then Princess Elizabeth she was to be Queen.
