Activist Edwin Mutemi Kiama was forced to spend Wednesday night in cells after prosecution applied to hold him for 14 days to allow police to complete their investigation.

In an affidavit on Wednesday, investigating officer Patrick Kibowen told the court he was still probing for possible offences under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act 2018.

Kiama was arrested over links to two ‘public notices’ that warned the International Monetary Fund (IMF) not to give more loans to President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

Kibowen said police suspected he colluded with others persons who are still at large and expressed concern the suspect could interfere with the probe and witnesses if set free.

A ruling on the prosecution’s request is expected to be delivered on Thursday.
