Kenya’s deaths related to Covid-19 rose to 659 on Tuesday after nine more people succumbed to the infection in the past 24 hours.

According to Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Dr Mercy Mwangangi, a total of 198 patients also recovered from the virus during the same period.

Dr Mwangangi said 46 of the recoveries were under the home-based care programme and 152 others were discharged from various health facilities bringing total recoveries locally to 24,147.

The total number of Coronavirus infections in the country also rose on Tuesday to 37,218 after 139 more people tested positive from 1,774 samples collected and tested in the past 24 hours.

125 of the new Covid-19 patients are Kenyans while the remaining 14 are foreigners, with 112 being male and 22 female. The youngest patient is 4-years-old and the oldest is 82. 

Distribution of the cases across counties was as follows: Nairobi 46, Kisumu 44, Mombasa 9, Kajiado 9, Kericho 9, Kiambu 6, Laikipia 4, Machakos 3, Nakuru 2, Garissa 1, Kirinyaga 1, Kisii 1, Makueni 1, Meru 1, Embu 1 and Turkana 1.
