Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was on Tuesday rushed from prison to a hospital in Nairobi County where he was admitted with complaints of stomach complications and high blood pressure, according to reports.

Sonko is said to have been taken to Nairobi Hospital in an ambulance on Monday night but is in stable condition.

The impeached governor has been in custody for over a week and faces multiple charges including terrorism, assault, robbery with violence and destruction of property.

The Kahawa Law Court is set to issue a ruling on whether the former Makadara MP will be held for 30 more days as detectives investigate claims linking him to terror-related activities.

A Kiambu court is on Tuesday scheduled to rule on his bail application in a case in which he faces multiple-assault charges.

The court last week ruled that he be detained for five more days after the Anti-Terror Police Unit linked Sonko to terror activities and sought 30 days to detain him to allow for a probe.

Only hours later he was whisked away from Nairobi Hospital and taken to Kiambu Court under tight security but one could not fail to notice plasters on his left and right hands and a hospital tag around his wrist as he sat at the docks.

Many Kenyans online are wondering if Sonko is really sick or it is the classic case of dignitaries becoming conveniently 'sick' to avid being detained as their cases are being heard, like is the case for other regular remandees.
