The death toll from the Thursday morning accident that happened near Kikopey Shopping Centre along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway has risen to seven.

Four people, including one child, perished on the spot, while three other people lost their lives while receiving treatment at two nearby hospitals.

Nakuru County police commander Peter Mwanzo revealed how the accident actually happened.

According to Mwanzo’s statement, the first 14-seater passenger service vehicle (PSV) rammed into the stationary truck first, leading to the second crash of the other 14-seater PSV, which ploughed into the two vehicles initially involved in the crash.

“A matatu that was coming heading towards Nairobi rammed a lorry. This caused a second matatu to crash in the vehicles," Mwanzo said.

Mwanzo also disclosed that one PSV carried 16 passengers while the other had 14 passengers.

About 10 other accident survivors are still receiving treatment at the Nakuru Level Five Hospital.
