President William Ruto has disclosed the government has prioritised the provision of spacious, comfortable, safe, secure and affordable housing for Police officers in the government's affordable housing plan.


Ruto said that on Wednesday when he presided over the passing out parade of 2,881 Police officers at the National Police College Main Campus-Kiganjo. 


He said that the Police-Prison reform taskforce that was established on Tuesday would look into a range of issues affecting police delivery including the terms and conditions of service of police officers and welfare issues, adding that addressing the housing shortage would go a long way in boosting the morale of police officers.


Ruto also noted the government would provide a comprehensive insurance scheme from this month, that would be available to Police officers and their families.

The president also said that two fully equipped police hospitals were already complete and would be soon ready to serve officers and their families, to ensure that police have access to priority dedicated and appropriate facilities for physical and mental wellness.

 

He also said the government will enhance its investment in the DCI National Forensic Laboratory to ensure that all the necessary equipment and facilities required in concluding complex investigations and improving the success rate of prosecution were in place. 


The Commander-in-Chief also said the government will enhance community policing partnerships to improve police effectiveness and responsiveness to emerging security challenges to intensify the fight against crime.


Ruto observed that increasing police numbers alone could not bear the desired results and there was a need to complement numbers with community-based efforts and exploit potential synergy among organisations in the criminal justice system to deliver value for Kenyans.


He expressed the government’s commitment to facilitating coordination among various agencies to find solutions to various problems.


 “The government is committed to facilitate efficient coordination between various agencies in solving problems that call for joint approaches,” Ruto said.
