Former President Daniel Moi’s lawyer Senior Counsel Juma Kiplenge is dead following a brief illness.

Kiplenge’s wife Jedidah Wairimu confirmed the renowned lawyers’ demise on Friday.

According to Wairimu, Kiplenge fell sick about a fortnight ago.

"He got sick two weeks ago and unfortunately passed away on Friday, October 7," Wairimu said.

His body lies at Umash Funeral Home in Nakuru, awaiting burial.

Kiplenge will be remembered for his role in fighting for the rights of the Ogiek community in the 1990s.

President William Ruto has led Kenyans in mourning Kiplenge and sent a condolence message to his family, friends and relatives following his passing on Friday, October 7, 2022.

In his condolence message, President Ruto said the country had lost a forthright lawyer, great legal mind and a champion of the rights of the minority communities.

Dr Ruto added that the departed was a patriotic Kenyan, who inspired many and worked hard to make the county better.
