Former Member of Parliament for Ainabkoi Constituency, William Chepkut, is dead, Kanu Secretary General Nick Salat has confirmed.

According to his family, Chepkut passed away on Saturday morning after he collapsed and was rushed to Mediheal Hospital in parklands, in Nairobi.

The former lawmaker was pronounced dead on arrival.

Chepkut’s family says he had been ailing for some time and had been hospitalised for a long period of time from late last year to early this year after tripping and falling off a flight of stairs.

He was elected as an independent candidate to serve as the Ainabkoi Constituency MP in 2017 and served for one term until the August 2022 General Election.

But the MP, who was loved for his comical comments and actions, lost his bid to defend the seat on an independent ticket to Samwel Chepkonga of UDA party in the August 9 election.

Chepkut once served as the personal assistant to the late Nicholas Biwott, who was one of the most powerful cabinet ministers in the late President Daniel arap Moi's regime and was nicknamed the "Total Man."
