Three Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers have perished while seventeen others have sustained injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in got involved in a road accident.

The KDF vehicle was travelling from Eldoret towards Nakuru on Thursday when the accident occurred in the Jogoo area along the busy Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.

Kuresoi North Sub County Police Commander Juddah Gathenge confirmed the incident.

According to the police report, the driver of the vehicle lost control when they reached the twin-bridge area before the vehicle overturned on the road.

Out of the 17 injured KDF officers, eight of them sustained serious injuries while the remaining nine only had minor injuries.

"Unfortunately, we had three fatalities while the injured officers were rushed to Molo Sub County Hospital. Eight were seriously injured while nine were slightly injured," Gathenge said.

The driver of the ill-fated vehicle is among those officers who survived the accident, albeit barely because he came out of it unconsciously.

A rescue team that included the fire brigade responded swiftly to the scene of the accident and immediately began the rescue operation.

The injured KDF officers were rescued and rushed to the Molo Sub-County hospital for emergency treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were also moved to the Molo Sub-county mortuary awaiting autopsy
