The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga has faulted the Supreme Court ruling that upheld President William Ruto’s victory in the previous presidential election.

Raila was speaking in Machakos County during the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition parliamentary group meeting, which he chaired.

While terming the ruling as ‘judicial thuggery’, Raila said the ruling the Supreme Court is currently involved in politics and the judgement it gave was inspired by the devil.

“Supreme Court is now in politics and they say that the ruling was inspired by God. I believe the ruling was inspired by the devil,” Raila said.

He took a swipe at Chief Justice Martha Koome, saying her actions demeaned the dignity of the Chief Justice’s office.

“The actions by the Chief Justice are clearly sycophantic and demean the dignity of the office of the Chief Justice,” Raila said. W

While delivering the ruling on the presidential election petition filed by Raila and his running mate Martha Karua, Koome said evidence to the claims that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) portal was nothing but ‘hot air’ and acutely fell short of the evidentiary threshold.

Koome was referring to submissions by the petitioner’s lawyer Julia Soweto, which identified Venezuelan national Jose Camargo as the person who meddled with the presidential election results in the IEBC portal.

Raila said the words Koome applied have never been used before.

“The words that the Chief Justice used against us have never been used in our court even in the days of single-party rule and state capture of the Judiciary,” the former Prime Minister said.

He criticised the seven-judge Supreme Court bench that unanimously dismissed his petition over its resolution to intimidate anyone who disagrees with its ruling.

The former premier singled out Justice Isaac Lenaola for allegedly threatening Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah with humiliation over his stand.

Omtatah was among the people who filed their petitions, challenging the presidential election results.

“The court registrar has already issued threats to those who have criticized the despicable judgment of the court. Lenaola is publicly accused of threatening Senator Omtatah with humiliation over his stand,” Raila said.
