James Orengo has been declared the winner in the Siaya County gubernatorial race 

Orengo won the Siaya gubernatorial seat after garnering 220,349 votes against his closest rival, former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo who received 147,558.

In his speech after being declared the winner, the top lawyer thanked the Siaya County people for electing him as their governor 

“I want to first and foremost thank the electorate of Siaya for giving me the honour to serve them as the Governor of Siaya County and we are not going to take this for granted. We had a manifesto and I can assure the people of Siaya that we are going to deliver what we promised in th manifesto which is gonna be rooted on good governance,” Orengo said.

The Senior Counsel also took to his Twitter account to express his gratitude to his supporters for voting for him.

Orengo pledged to restore the glory of Siaya County and make it great and prosperous.

“The people of Siaya have spoken; they have delivered to us a clear and convincing victory. I'm humbled with the trust and confidence they have put in me. I pledge to be the governor who will restore the soul of Siaya and make it GREAT, PROSPEROUS and RESPECTED,” Orengo wrote.

Orengo has served as the MP for Ugenya Constituency and also the Senator for Siaya County.

In the senatorial race, Oburu Oginga also won after garnering 285,595 votes and beating his major competitor, Julius Okinda, who got33,898 votes.

Oburu also thanked his Siaya people for electing him their senator at his age and overlooking younger leaders who were in the race.

“I want to thank Siaya for honouring me with a chance to lead you as your senator. I am over 70 but you have selected me from much younger people. But then, their maturity to represent people in the senate has not yet come,” Oburu said.

Christine Ombaka was also declared the Siaya Woman Representative-elect for the third time after garnering 207,748 votes.
