Fugitive Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has finally surrendered to the police.

Barasa presented himself to Bungoma Police and was arrested immediately and put in custody for the murder of Brian Olunga, who was Brian Khaemba, Barasa’s opponent’s aide.

His surrender comes after police gave him a six-hour ultimatum to surrender to the nearest police station.

The police wanted Barasa to shed some light on what transpired on the fateful day.

Barasa is suspected of shooting Olunga following an altercation with his Khaemba on Tuesday at Chebukwabi Primary School polling station in Kimilili Constituency, Bungoma County.

Since the incident, Barasa went into hiding and engaged the authorities in a cat-and-mouse game.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji also ordered for Barasa’s arrest and a statement before the same is forwarded to his office for action.

On Thursday, Barasa for anticipatory bail through top lawyer Senior Counsel John Khaminwa pending his arrest.

Khaminwa wrote a letter on Thursday to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Inspector General of Police alerting them of the move.
