A showdown between the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition and the Kenya Kwanza Alliance is looming after the two rival political factions alleged they booked the same venue for their campaigns' grand finales on August 6, 2022.

In a statement the Azimio coalition’s Secretary General Junet Mohamed issued on Tuesday, Raila Odinga and Martha Karua are set to hold their final political rally in Nairobi at the Nyayo Stadium.

Junet took the same opportunity to thank the Azimio coalition supporters across the country for attending their political gatherings

“The Azimio campaign team, led by Baba na Martha, will hold its last official campaign meeting in Nairobi on August 6, 2022, at Nyayo Stadium,” Junet said.

“As the country approaches the general election in 20 days, the Azimio team wishes to thank all Kenyans of goodwill who have turned up in their millions all over the country at meetings, rallies, and in person in this historic journey to a fair, just, prosperous and inclusive nation.”

However, it turns out that Deputy President William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza had already laid claim on the same venue just a day before, on Monday for the same day.

The UDA Party Secretary General Veronica Maina said their faction had already secured and fully booked the venue for August 6.

“For your information and for the public record, the Nyayo National Stadium venue is already secured and fully booked by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA)/Kenya Kwanza Alliance for August 6,” Maina said.

If the situation is not taken care of in good time, a repeat of the ‘Jacaranda Grounds’ incident might recur.

In June, Azimio and Kenya Kwanza supporters clashed at Jacaranda Grounds after the two factions both claimed they booked the venue for their political events on the same day.
