The Thirdway Alliance Party presidential aspirant Ekuru Aukot has vowed to move to court to challenge the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) requirement demanding presidential aspirants to produce the specified number of signatures from supporters before being cleared.

This comes shortly after IEBC rejected Aukot’s application to run for president in the August election for failing to provide ID copied for his supporters.

“Returning Officer for the Presidential election Wafula Chebukati rejects application by Thirdway Alliance Kenya Party Presidential Candidate Dr. Ekuru Aukot. This is after he failed to provide ID copies of his supporters,” IEBC said.

Aukot presented his papers to the Wafula Chebukati, the National Returning officers on Saturday at the Bomas of Kenya.

IEBC also said it could not clear Aukot to contest in the August election because he failed to meet the required number of signatures from his supporters.

Dr Aukot also failed to meet the minimum number of signatures from his supporters, which is required for registration as a presidential candidate.

Aukot argued the requirement is unrealistic because according to him, no Kenyan is willing to provide their identity documents to be photocopied.

Aukot also wondered how the presidential candidates who the IEBC has cleared obtained photocopies of their supporters.

“No Kenyan is willing to give you his ID card to photocopy, let us be realistic. I’m even wondering where the cleared candidates got the photocopied ID cards of Kenyans from,” said Aukot.
