President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday assured all the candidates seeking the presidency that he will hand over power peacefully to the winner in the August 9 general election.

The President said he would not interfere with Kenya’s tradition of peaceful transition as he is set to hand over the running of government to the next generation of elected leaders.

“It is my intention to pass on the baton unbroken,” Uhuru said.

He was speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi on Thursday, where he expressed optimism the national unity spirit expressed at the meeting will last.

The Head of State called for unity during and after the August poll saying he was looking forward to enjoy his retirement in peace.

“It's my prayer that we'll end up much united after this elections, like never before. I also do hope that the prayers of DP Ruto will come true; I'm looking forward to peace and enjoyment in years to come,” he added.
