Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate William Ruto has faulted Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition’s move to pick Martha Karua as Raila Odinga’s running mate.

He also accused Azimio of betraying Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka by picking Karua instead of him as a running mate.

Ruto was speaking in Kajiado on Monday where he went to popularise his presidential bid ahead of the August election.

The deputy president claimed leaders are leaving the Azimio Coalition every day because of deceit.

“Leaders of high calibre are ditching the Azimio coalition every day. It began with Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader, Moses Wetangula. Today, we have seen Musyoka and Gideon Moi leaving. If these people can deceive fellow leaders, they can do worse to millions of innocent Kenyans,” Ruto said.

In his address to Kajiado residents, Ruto picked issue with the roles and responsibilities Raila assigned his deputy if Azimio team wins the August election.

"Our competitor has unveiled his deputy nominee and gave her work to change the constitution in case they win. Kenyans want economic revival, not constitutional change," Ruto said.

Ruto dropped Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki and unveiled Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate on Sunday, while Raila unveiled Karua as his deputy on Monday.

However, a section of members of the public has sharply reacted to Ruto’s remarks concerning the nomination of Karua as Raila’s running mate.
