Wiper party’s National Organising Secretary Robert Mbui invited its members to the Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka Command Centre for a meeting at 11:00 am.

"You are invited by our party leader His Excellency Hon Kalonzo Musyoka to the SKM command center today morning 16th May,  2022 at 11am for an extremely important announcement. Please purpose to come," the invitation read.

The intended meeting comes amid plans by Kalonzo and his Wiper party to go to court to pull out of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition.

The leaders allied to Kalonzo led by Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo also revealed their intention to go to court and impeach the agreement of the Azimio coalition.

“We, as Wiper and Mr Musyoka’s lawyers, are approaching the High Court tomorrow morning first of all seeking to impeach the agreement of Azimio One Kenya. We shall be able to prove before the court that the Azimio One Kenya agreement is unconstitutional and as a result of that every party in Azimio One Kenya will go its own way,” Maanzo said.

According to the leaders allied to Kalonzo, they will bolt out of the coalition if he is not picked as Raila’s running mate.

On Thursday, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Running Mate Selection seven-member panel submitted the names of the 3 candidates it shortlisted for the position of Raila’s running mate.

Kalonzo and his allies insist he is the best-suited candidate to deputise Raila and will settle for nothing less despite going through the selection process.

Maanzo also revealed that Kalonzo’s name had already been presented before the IEBC as a presidential candidate long before the formation of the Azimio coalition.

He also said the same has not been withdrawn therefore Wiper may also approach the August election on its own as an entity and is also likely to pick its running mate on Monday.

"Mr Musyoka’s name had been properly presented before the IEBC as a presidential candidate even before the formation of Azimio One Kenya. That has not been withdrawn. We shall also have Mr Musyoka name a running mate tomorrow and be on the ballot paper as a presidential candidate," Maanzo revealed.

Raila was expected to name his running mate on Sunday during the Kamukunji rally, which Kalonzo did not attend but postponed the exercise to Monday.

It seems Kalonzo’s fate hands in Raila’s Monday announcement of his running mate ahead of the August election.
