Kabete Police Station-based police officers arrested four criminals following an incident in which they reportedly drugged passengers in a Nairobi-bound bus from Kisumu on Sunday.

The four suspects namely Joshua Orengo, Harrison Nyamu, Benson Odero and Stephen were arrested in a dramatic incident following the brave action of the driver of the bus.

Unusually heavy snores from the passengers on the bus drew the attention of the driver who took a peek in the rear-view mirror only to see two individuals moving about the bus from one row to another while everyone else was fast asleep.

The brave bus driver identified as Emmanuel Barasa took an unexpected detour and screeched to a sudden halt inside the Kabete Police Station.

Barasa then quickly jumped out of the bus and dashed straight for the police station’s report office, alerting the officers on duty of what he suspected has transpired inside the bus.

The officers did not waste any time and threw a cautionary ring around the bus immediately as they took positions ready for any eventuality.

They ordered all the occupants of the bus out and much to their surprise, over half of the passengers were drowsy and recovering from the effects of an unknown substance that was used to stupefy them into what seemed like a trance.

Police also discovered that most of them had lost their valuables, including mobile phones, tablets, laptops and money among other valuables the criminals managed to lay their hands on.

The police officers successfully fished out the four criminals and recovered the items they had already stolen from the other passengers.

However, things took a weird twist when the duty officers attempted to book the four suspected "mchele" criminals in when they suddenly became seemingly drowsy and incoherent.

It forced the officers to rush them to hospital first for urgent medical examination where it was established that they had consumed their own "drug" in a bid to destroy the evidence.

After the dramatic incident, police allowed the other passengers to complete their journey, but under strict advice that they seek medical attention upon arrival at their destinations.

The four suspects "mchele" administrators were discharged from the health facility and put in custody as they waited to be arraigned in court on Monday.

It, however, remains unclear how the substance was administered to all the passengers.
