The Wiper party has handed a direct ticket to Mike Sonko to vie for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat.

The party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, handed the nomination certificate to Sonko on Thursday in Nairobi.

According to the party's National Elections Board, Sonko and the incumbent member of Parliament for the Kisauni constituency, Ali Mboga agreed to work together.

"Our consensus efforts continue to bear fruit. The National Elections Board is very pleased to announce that Mike Sonko and Hon Ali Mboga have agreed to work together to deliver Mombasa County Governorship," Wiper said.

Initially, Sonko would have battled it out for the Wiper ticket with the Mbogo in the party primaries.

However, the party decided that Sonko will fly the Wiper party ticket in the Mombasa gubernatorial race and Mbogo has been named his running mate.

The former Nairobi City County boss will now square it out for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat on the ballot with Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar who will run on a UDA ticket and the Member of Parliament for Mvita Constituency Abdulswamad Nassir of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
