Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have finally arrested the two chief suspects involved in the gruesome murder of Joel Juma, the fourth-year Industrial Chemistry student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

Juma was murdered on Monday at 2 am by three suspects who accosted him and his girlfriend while they were headed to a friend’s house to fetch some revision materials and stabbed him twice in the chest before disappearing with his mobile phone.

A serious manhunt was immediately launched to bring the perpetrators to book, culminating in the arrest of the two suspects namely Joseph Muchiri, alias Agent 22, and Paul Mbatha 20 on Tuesday morning.

One suspect was fished out of his hideout at Kiandutu in Thika Town, while the second suspect was arrested at Gachororo in the Juja area before he could flee from the police.

According to the DCI, they are soon closing in on the third suspect and the search is at an advanced stage.

The suspects are believed to be part of a larger gang that operates within the Eastlands area of Nairobi.

Muchiri and Mbatha have since confessed to taking part in the murder of Juma and are currently in police custody, waiting to be arraigned in court.
