The National Police Service spokesperson Bruno Shioso has announced the arrest of 17 people over the attack on former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his entourage on Friday in Kebenes, Uasin Gishu County.

A group of rowdy youth attacked the Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate and his entourage when they went to attend the burial of Mzee Jackson Kibor.

Shioso said the 17 suspects are helping the police with the investigation.

“Following the incident which occurred yesterday the 1st April 2022 in Eldoret during the burial for late Mzee Jackson Kibor where the Rt Hon Raila Odinga and his entourage were attacked, NPS wishes to inform the public that 17 suspects have been arrested and helping with investigation,” Shioso said.

According to the NPS spokesperson, police retrieved denominations of Sh50 from the suspects. 

“The suspects were found in possession of cash money in Ksh 50 denomination, including mobile phones which are aiding with forensic analysis,” Shioso said.

The NPS reminded all citizens that it is the right of every citizen to visit any part of the county. 

NPS also called upon political leaders and supporters to be tolerant of one another during the electioneering period.

“We call upon political leaders and their supporters to accord accommodation and tolerance to each other, including those of divergent views and opinions during this period of electioneering,” NPS said.
