Hooligans attacked Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris and her campaign team on Monday afternoon in Westlands, Nairobi.

Passaris was on her campaign trail when the incident happened.

According to Passaris, their assailants took away the keys to the truck and demanded money in exchange for the keys.

"Our convoy under attack. We are in Westlands near Deepsea. Help. The thugs have taken our truck keys and are demanding money to give back our keys," Passaris raised alarm.

Apart from taking away the keys, the assailants also damaged the truck by breaking the windscreen and other breakable parts.

Passaris alleged the assailants are known individuals and took to her Twitter account to seek help from the authorities.

“We are stranded inside the truck. We know the thugs. They have broken our windscreen. Help,” she said.

The Woman Rep’s security team and youth managed to retrieve the truck’s keys, although the truck driver was roughed up by the assailants. The truck was later driven to the police station.

“My security team and youth who did not condone the behaviour of the attackers helped get the keys back and even drive the truck to the police station as the driver having been given a few blows was too shaken,” Passaris wrote.

Passaris said she was waiting for police action to bring the culprits to book.

“Awaiting swift action by the Police to arrest perpetrators; two brothers and a woman. Women should be able to campaign and feel safe along the trail,” Passaris said.
