Justice George Odunga has released Julius Wambua, who is said to have been wrongfully convicted eight years ago. 

Wambua was serving a life sentence after his daughter allegedly framed him in a defilement case.

Wambua was released on a cash bail of Sh30,000 and an alternative bond of Sh200,000 with a surety of similar amount pending his retrial.

The Wednesday ruling came following a push for his release that started in 2019 after his daughter confessed to framing her father.

Dorcas Wambua claimed to have executed the plan to have him incarcerated under instructions from her mother.

Following her confession, Wambua’s daughter subsequently filed submissions at the Machakos High Court recanting her original testimonies that got him convicted. 

In October last year, the Court of Appeal threw out Wambua’s appeal.
