The former governor for Nairobi County Mike Sonko has responded to the ban on himself and his immediate family by the US government over corruption.

He took to his social media accounts to respond to the US government.

Sonko said he was not yet convicted on any corruption-related charges because the cases are still pending in court.

“I’ve learned of news barring my family and I from traveling to the United States Of America (USA) over unverified corruption allegations against me. I've not been convicted on any corruption-related charges because the cases are still pending in court awaiting judgement,” Sonko said.

The former governor for Nairobi also refuted claims that his family members were awarded tenders by the county when he was the county boss.

While acknowledging he has money laundering and related offences case in court, Sonko defended himself and his family against the ban.

"None of my family members was ever awarded any tender by the county when I was in office and it's in the public dormain, the embassy should come out publicly and tell Kenyans the truth. My wife and kids have never supplied even a spoon or toilet paper to city hall either directly or indirectly," Sonko wrote.

Sonko blamed his woes on some Kenyan politicians and claimed the ban was politically instigated because he declared his interest in running for Nairobi's gubernatorial seat once again.

"Why is this coming out a day after I said that I'll be defending my seat on August?" he posed

Sonko reminded the US Government of the help he offered them when they had a security issue with a certain building that Sonko brought down in Gigiri because it was overlooking US government installations in the area.

“Least the American embassy forget that I am the one who helped them demolish a building next to their embassy that had become a nuisance for them even after exposing the owner who was trying to bribe me with Ksh. 100M. The previous governor had not helped them bring it down because of his corruptness,” Sonko lamented.

Sonko chided the US Government to focus on fighting Putin the same way they went for Osama Bin Laden instead of him. He also asked the US to investigate their ambassador though he did not disclose for what.

“This is high time, you are a superpower. I am a very small person compared to a government like US,” Sonko said

“Am urging the USA to investigate their ambassador and focus on fighting PUTIN who's killed millions of innocent lives in Ukraine just the way they went for Osama bin laden.”

Sonko faulted the US government and accused them of applying the law selectively. He talked about other political leaders including Ferdinand Waititu, Okoth Obado and John Waluke who have all ben convicted but never got banned from the US.

“I think they are applying their laws against corruption selectively. Look it the other way A I the only governor facing corruption in Kenya, why me and my family, why Sonko and his family. In fact, there are other governors that have been charged by offences they are referring to in their allegations,” he said.
