The stage is set in Sagana, Nyeri County for a major announcement by President Uhuru Kenyatta on the way forward for the Mt Kenya region on his succession.

Dignitaries, Jubilee Party leaders and members of the public gathered from Wednesday as early as 5am at the Sagana State Lodge with President Kenyatta expected address the meeting later from around noon.

In the much anticipated meeting, Uhuru is also expected to officially endorse Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga and explain why he chose him over his rebel deputy William Ruto, whom he had earlier promised to back at the end of his term in August.

His address, which is expected to be politically charged, is crucial and comes as Ruto has returned to campaign in central region where his political fortunes have been waning in the recent months, at least according to various opinion polls.

The meeting also comes as the President has revived Jubilee Party with party leaders and members activating it at the grassroots and recruiting aspirants to strengthen it.

This also comes ahead of the Jubilee Party National Delegates Convention slated for Friday and Saturday at KICC in Nairobi to kick out Ruto, who is the deputy party leader, ratify changes of officials and endorse Uhuru’s choice of Raila as the candidate the party will support in the August General Election.
