The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga and his family are in India to visit their first-born daughter Rosemary Odinga.

Raila travelled to India immediately after attending the 35th Summit of the African Union in Addis Ababa Ethiopia.

The ODM leader’s family was treated to a warm VIP welcome by their hosts in India.

Rosemary is currently admitted at Sreethareeyam Ayurvedic Eye Hospital and Centre.

According to Rosemary’s doctor Narayanan Namboothiri, she is undergoing a traditional form of treatment known as Ayurvedic Medicine.

The hospital said Rosemary is visiting the hospital for a routine follow up assessment after her successful treatment.

“Now in February 2022, Rosemary is again at Sreedhareeyam with her family for the follow-up treatment and evaluations. We are humbled to share the experience of Rosemary and extremely happy for them,” the hospital said.

Rosemary got blind after suffering a mild stroke in 2017 and was hospitalised in South Africa.

She was later flown to Israel, Germany then China where she was treated for her condition. However, her blindness did not go away.

Upon advice from a friend, she was taken to the Ayurvedic treatment at Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Eye Hospital and Research Centre for trial treatment.

A month of treatment at the hospital and follow-up medication saw her gradually regain her vision within three months.

Rosemary’s life came back to normal after a year although she needed a pair of eyeglasses to see properly.

Raila is expected to stay in India for a few days before returning to Kenya.
